To celebrate multicultural month, Temple Hill’s high school students watched Quezon in Cinema ‘76 on October 29, with the aim to understand how the movie presented Philippine history.

The film focused on Quezon’s rise to power, portraying him as an ambitious leader who used power to his advantage. Set during the American colonial period, it expounded on his political rise and how he surrendered to the Americans. It featured characters like Emilio Aguinaldo, Sergio Osmeña, and Leonard Wood. Quezon is the final edition in the Bayani series, the other films being Goyo: Batang Heneral and Heneral Luna.

In the movie, Joven Hernando, a fictional character who serves as a journalist who observes multiple Philippine historical events, plays a major role in the film’s plot. For Quezon's campaign, Joven’s daughter designed two films: one for his achievements, and another which showed the contrast of the official campaigning materials.

According to History teacher Isis So, the Quezon movie was picked as the multicultural month activity because it opens and broadens the knowledge of Philippine history, which is a key part of our culture. She also shared that based on the feedback she collected, students actually learnt and enjoyed the movie. Eighth grader Aiden Thoss shared the same sentiment saying; , “The movie was informative with a bit of fictional elements”.

The students gathered in the school's QC campus then went to the cinema, where they were provided with pre-ordered snacks. After receiving their food, the students chose their seats and the screening began. Cinema ‘76 provided an enjoyable experience, and the theater showed to be a good place for more intimate gatherings. “It's a nice place to go and watch a movie with relatives or friends,” concluded Jake Jalandoni, another eighth grade student. After the movie, the community had lunch at the Cinema ‘76 cafe and later left by carpool.
